BACKGROUND

Employment and equality legislation is now relevant to every aspect of the employment relationship – from initial recruitment to the nature of the employment contract, to rights an employee may accrue during the course of his employment, to the termination of the relationship. For many years an understanding of employment legislation has been a vital requirement of any employer or staff manager.

This is particularly true now when work practices are rapidly changing and the work force itself becomes diverse and multi-cultural.

This course is designed to provide an employer / manager or staff supervisor with an overview of the legislative framework governing the employment relationship.  

COURSE OBJECTIVES

To provide a comprehensive overview of all legislation both domestic and EU laws concerning the recruitment and employment of employees (both national and non-national, full time and part-time) and the framework in which disputes between employees and their employers may be heard and adjudicated on.

This one day Training Course provides an introduction to the functions and jurisdiction of Industrial Relations Institutions, including the Labour Court and Employment Appeals Tribunal. A detailed overview of the relevant legislation concerning employment equality and employee protection (including the protection of part-time and fixed term contract employees is given. The course will also set out and explain an employee’s rights as provided in the legislation governing maternity, adoptive, parental and carer’s leave. Termination and Redundancy are also explained.
